Yes, it’s true.  Larry Collins has retired from writing the fishing report each week.  Rumor has it that he is doing some traveling and taking life a little easier these days.  Larry could always tell us where to fish, what to fish for and what to fish with, as well as throw in some great information on safe boating and clean environment.  We’ll miss you Larry!  Don’t worry, he’ll still be around, and if I am lucky, maybe he’ll pass on some of the wisdom that comes from years of fishing!

Ask any Lake Martin fisherman - it’s always exciting when you have a good catch of spot tails in your minnow jugs.  We all know if you can catch spot tails, you can catch fish!  I have received reports of spotted bass being caught on spot tail minnows.  Catfish fishermen are having good luck with Chartreuse Night Crawlers.  Good reports are coming from Middle Pond for bass and bream. One of our local bait shops reports that fisherman are using jigs for crappie and bass fishing, as well as jumbo minnows for stripes.

Lots of reports are coming in of crappie being caught at night by dock lights, especially those green monster lights.  Folks were catching them on minnows in deeper water, around 15-20 feet.   But please be considerate of the owners.  Some folks don’t mind you fishing their lights at all, and will visit with you while you fish.  Others don’t like it so much!  They pay a lot of money for those lights, so go on around the bend if that’s the case.  There’s bound to be more on down the Lake!  More fish, too!

Remember as you are out and about, lower water levels mean underwater obstacles are closer to the surface of the water.  Beware of potential dangers to boats and props.  Keep a close watch on those depth finders, and be safe as you have fun!

Email me at dduck821@windstream.net with your latest best fishing story or any hints you would like to pass along.  Together we’ll fish Lake Martin bringing in those big catches and telling even bigger stories!
