Spring Fishing Has Arrived at Lake Martin

Spring is just moving right along bringing with it much warmer weather. Surface temperatures on the lake this past week were between 58-63 degrees. Fish will soon be moving shallow and the bite will be on.

The lower end of Lake Martin has a new live bait tackle shop. Kowaliga Live Bait and Tackle located at the intersection of 229 and 63 opened last Friday. Owners Reed and Debbie Duck would like to welcome you to come by and visit have a cup of coffee and see what they have to offer and their plans for the future. Debbie comes from a long line of live bait owners dating back to 1955 when her father started a live bait business on and around Lake Jordan. That business has expanded over the years with Debbie taking it over about two years ago and now brings it to Lake Martin. You can reach them at 334-857-3733 seven days a week from 6AM-6PM.

Live bait as most of you know is the way to catch more fish over a year’s time. Live bait will catch most any species of fish that swims in Lake Martin. Everyone who has a cabin or home on Lake Martin has at one time or another fished from their docks using live bait. It is the prime bait for kids to learn the fun of fishing.

From minnows to worms live bait has been the choice of serious fishermen both fresh and salt water over the years. Dedicated artificial bait fishermen if honest will have to say that their first experience into the sport of fishing was using live bait when they were young.

Using live bait provides a great way to spend a day on the water with family and friends. It also provides the best chance of catching fish for the family fish fry.
