Lake Martin Businesses
Lake Martin is located in the central part of the state of Alabama (U.S.) in the counties of Tallapoosa, Elmore, and Coosa. It is a 39,180 acre lake with 700 miles (1,200 km) of wooded shoreline. Lake Martin was formed after the completion of Martin Dam on the Tallapoosa River. Martin Dam generates hydroelectric power and is owned and operated by Alabama Power. After construction of the dam in 1926, Lake Martin was the largest man-made lake in the world.
Lake Martin is a popular recreation lake for swimming, boating, fishing, water skiing, camping, and golfing. The lake is known for having clear water with some locations having visiblity of 15 vertical feet. Waterfront neighborhoods and luxury homes are located around the lake and have direct access to the shoreline. The shoreline is regulated by Alabama Power Company. Boating access areas and marinas are numerous on Lake Martin. |
