July 10, 2025 (6:30 PM - 8:30 PM)

July 10, 2025 – Zazu's Verandah is please to present George Maddox, of The Appalachia Sound, performing inside the air-conditioned Listening Room, at Zazu's Verandah located on the Dadeville Square! You don’t want to miss getting to hear George live in a Listening Room environment!
We’re fortunate to get to hear George at Zazu’s Verandah because most of his performances are in Tallahassee, FL and its surrounding area.

Following in the same vein as Ronnie Van Zant and Sturgill Simpson, George is steering his brand of red dirt – honest story telling through the brackish water that is country music. His album “Gritwater” is a down to earth collection of songs written from the heart and his passion can be heard through his singing and lyrics with just the right amount of Kris Kristofferson seriousness and a touch of southern rock swagger.
Described by his friends as “country music with integrity,” His lyrics have depth and meaning. In his song “Cost,” he tackles the issue of drugs in our nation, or on the song “Water Wars” where in his own words, “is about trying to save The Apalachicola Bay from corruption and greed.”

Please be certain to generously tip and thank George for GIVING to our great little town.

Don’t miss out getting to hear George Maddox, live inside the air-conditioned Listening Room at Zazu's Verandah, Thursday, July 10th starting at 6:30 pm.

THE WILDER BLUE
“There is music. And then there is The Wilder Blue, who feel so transcendent, they’re in a category all of their own.” —Saving Country Music
The Wilder Blue began in 2019 when Zane Williams, already a seasoned troubadour with seven solo albums under his belt, pulled together a select group of multi-talented musicians from the Texas music scene. Their debut album Hill Country (2020) and its follow-up The Wilder Blue (2022) garnered comparisons to early Eagles and 80’s-era Alabama by interweaving five-part harmonies with bluegrassy arrangements of folk-rock and country songs.
For their newest release Super Natural in the fall of 2023, the band enlisted Grammy- nominated Brent Cobb to produce the album and perform on the title track, a song he and the band co-wrote in the studio. Brent’s groovy, vintage sensibilities proved a natural fit for a band with influences as diverse as Little Feat, Del McCoury, and Robert Earl Keen. A cover of the Eagle’s classic “Seven Bridges Road” also features band admirer Luke Combs, who has added The Wilder Blue to his 2025 stadium tour lineup.
Twenty years before he was fronting a break-out band, Zane Williams was a solo coffee- house performer and aspiring songwriter in Nashville. After moving back to his native Texas in 2008 he eventually became a dancehall staple and respected songwriter with cuts by the likes of Pat Green, Kevin Fowler, and Cody Johnson. To the surprise of his fans (and the bemusement of his booking agent), Zane announced the formation of the new group in 2019 by soliciting band names from his fans and promising lifetime free tickets to anyone whose suggestion was picked. (The winning name “Hill Country” had to be changed just after the release of their first album due to a trademark conflict, but the winner is still on the guest list for life!)
Multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter Andy Rogers was the only member of Zane’s former band to join the new group. Born and raised in Lebanon, TN, Rogers learned bluegrass chops from an early age and excelled on bass, banjo, dobro, guitar, and just about anything with strings. Rogers moved to Denton, TX in 2004 to study jazz bass at the University of North Texas and made a long-term home in the eclectic arts community he found there. Playing in a series of rock and country gigs eventually led him to join the Zane Williams band on bass and vocals in 2016.
Looking over the Texas music scene for likely bandmates, Williams sent a text to a singer- songwriter and lead guitar player whose voice had caught his ear a few years before on local radio. Paul Eason was ensconced at the time in a comfortable guitar gig with Texas staple Kevin Fowler but was immediately intrigued by the notion of joining forces. Originally from Houston, TX but living at the time in San Antonio, Eason fronted various bands beginning in his teens and released two solo albums in the early 2000’s before joining the Fowler band full time. A third solo album followed in 2016, which showcased his distinctive lead vocals, southwestern aesthetics, and impeccable guitar playing.
Eason, in turn, vividly recalled meeting a singing drummer named Lyndon Hughes who had been with the Roger Creager band. Eason and Williams paid a visit to the studio in the Woodlands, TX where Hughes was working as an engineer, producer, drummer, and vocalist. Singing together that day on a new song Williams had written called “Dixie Darlin’,” the three realized they were onto something special. Hughes, a Houston native, brought a wide range of skills to the new band. His effortless harmony vocals, his versatile drumming, and his ears as an engineer and producer would end up having an major affect on the shaping the sound of the band.
After an experimental jam session and some casual demo recordings in 2019, the four existing members agreed that Rogers would be best utilized playing primarily banjo and dobro which meant the search was on for a permanent bass player to round out the band. After several months of searching and two dead ends, the band reluctantly decided to begin recording its first album without a dedicated bass player. With the first gig only a few months away, the pressure was building to find someone—-anyone?—-who could fill the role. Which is when the perfect person happened to come along.
Only in his mid-20s, Sean Rodriguez was already both a road dog and a fixture in the live music scene of Austin, TX. Originally from Corpus Christi, TX Rodriguez grew up playing everything from funk to rock to conjunto to country. It’s a diversity reflected in his flamboyant dress and vintage playing style, delivered on stage with a boot-scootin’ joie-de-vivre that quickly earned him the nickname “The Boogie Man”. The four existing band members asked Rodriguez to join them in the studio and play on the final two songs as a trial run. Shortly after he arrived, the five members of the Wilder Blue first gathered around to sing something together in the lobby of the studio. “Let’s try “Seven Bridges Road”, someone suggested. The blend was magic, and the chill bumps on their arms are the same ones fans are now feeling at venues all across the nation.

BOTTOMLAND
Bottomland is a unique southeast Texas blend of southern rock and country roots featuring Cannon Brand and Justin Lane Gates. The newly formed duo is comprised of the two singer/songwriters who have paid their dues in the honky-tonks and listening rooms of the Lone Star State. Their collaboration magnifies the talents of both while producing an unmistakable sound that is garnering attention from fans and the music industry alike.
In an era of viral trends, Bottomland is slugging it out the old fashioned way. On the road. Their live show is the cornerstone of the growing brand and their passion. Like a Texas-country Blink-182, Bottomland delivers live like few young bands on the scene. And yes, while they are more than appreciative to interact online, it’s with the hope they’ll see you in front of the stage soon.

For nearly two decades, American Aquarium have pushed toward that rare formof rock-and-roll that’s revelatory in every sense. “For us the sweet spot is whenyou’ve got a rock band that makes you scream along to every word, and it’s notuntil you’re comingdown at three a.m. that you realize those words are sayingsomething real about your life,” says frontman BJ Barham. “That’s what made usfall in love with music in the first place, and that’s the goal in everything we do.”On their new albumThe Fear ofStanding Still, the North Carolina-bred bandembody that dynamic with more intensity than ever before, endlessly matchingtheir gritty breed of country-rock with Barham’s bravest and most incisivesongwriting to date. As he reflects on matters both personal and sociocultural—e.g., the complexity of Southern identity, the intersection of generational traumaand the dismantling of reproductive rights—American Aquarium instill everymoment ofThe Fear of Standing Stillwith equal parts unbridled spirit andilluminating empathy.
Recorded live at the legendary Sunset Sound in Los Angeles,The Fear of StandingStillmarks American Aquarium’s second outing with producer Shooter Jennings—a three-time Grammy winner who also helmed production on 2020’s criticallylaudedLamentations, as well as albums from the likes of Brandi Carlile and TanyaTucker. In a departure from the stripped-down subtlety of 2022’sChicamacomico(a largely acoustic rumination on grief), the band’s tenth studio LP piles on plentyof explosive riffs and hard-charging rhythms, bringing a visceral energy to themost nuanced and poetic of lyrics. “In our live show the band’s like a freight trainthat never lets up, and for this record I really wanted to showcase how big andanthemic we can be,” notes Barham, whose bandmates include guitarist ShaneBoeker, pedal-steel guitarist Neil Jones, keyboardist Rhett Huffman, drummerRyan Van Fleet, and bassist Alden Hedges.Mixed by four-time Grammy winner Trina Shoemaker (Queens of the Stone Age,Emmylou Harris),The Fear of Standing Stillshares its title with one of the firstsongs Barham wrote for the album—a soul-baring look at how raising a family hasradically altered his priorities and perspective. In the process of creating what herefers to as “a record about growing up and growing older,” Barham also found hissongwriting closely informed by his ten years of sobriety, as well as his ever-deepening connection with American Aquarium’s community of fans. “Wheneversomeone tells me that one of our songshelped them in some way, it encouragesme to be more and more open—almost like peeling a layer off an onion,” he says.“This album is a writer 18 years into his career, peeling away the next layer andseeing just how human we can make this thing.”

We tell this story every year, but it never gets old. 14 years ago when we started Friday On The Green, Sid Phelps had recently won Kowaliga Idol and became one of the 4 acts that played FOG that year. Every year since then, Sid manages to find time in his busy work schedule as a singer/songwriter and CEO of Phelps Farms to come sing and play for us! Be a part of the crowd this Friday night as we welcome back Sid Phelps!

Grab your comfy stuff and leash for the pup, then join us for a great time with the fam, friends, and really cool tunes! See you Friday, On The Green!

The Larry Keel & Jon Stickley Duo features two of the finest flatpicking guitarists of this generation. Both share a lifelong love of acoustic bluegrass guitar music made famous by influential duets Doc and Merle Watson, and Tony Rice and Norman Blake. Keel, Stickley, and other modern flatpickers like Billy Strings grew up studying these legends. These masters were role models who provided inspiration to both Larry and Jon to pursue careers as professional guitar players. Each has gone on to pioneer his own distinct interpretation of the bluegrass artform, as well as fusing genres from roots, jazz, prog, and beyond. Now, Keel and Stickley have themselves become new masters of acoustic guitar. With this act, the two celebrate the pure joy of playing acoustic guitar music as a duo, effortlessly complementing each other’s rhythm and lead playing while never losing their own individual personality. Their sophisticated and awe-inspiring performances suit an array of venues including festival stages, listening rooms, private functions, and nightclubs. At the core of the Keel/Stickley Duo is an intimate conversation between two guitars and voices, done with superior skill and taste, with more than a hint of explosive late-nightjam vibe.
