Family fun is “Slamily” fun for Eclectic hip hop singer James McLeod, who calls himself Kaptain Cloud.

Hip hop artist Kaptain Cloud of Eclectic is hosting Slam Fest on Saturday in Wetumpka.

“Because I’m the captain of my own cloud,” he said.

It’s a cloud made of positivity and good energy, which he said is really important to him.

“The world’s so negative,” Cloud said. “It breaks my spirit the more time I look out and see more negative than positive that’s happening.”

On Saturday from noon to 9 p.m., he and Kristina Grier are hosting Slam Fest at 1280 Chubbahatchee Circle, Wetumpka. He describes it as a post-quarantine back-to-school end-of-summer fun event.

Admission is $10 per car, which covers parking and a water balloon fight.

There will also be music, face painting, food and drinks (while supplies last), inflatables and waterslides (wristbands sold separately for an all-day pass).

The main event of the night is a car smash - an event where a big hammer meets an old car. Guests can take a swing at it. It's $2 for three hits or $5 for 5 hits.

This is a cash only event.

Cloud’s Slamily

Hip hop artist Kaptain Cloud, left, of Eclectic is also a mechanic and a car enthusiast.

Along with music and making people laugh, Cloud has a hobby that keeps him on the road.

“I work on cars a lot,” he said.

He’s part of a car group called Slamily - family with an S, he said.

“My friends that are real close to me, we all fiddle with cars,” Cloud said. “We come together every Sunday, and we try to support something positive.”

When coronavirus locked everything down, he and the Slamily bunch put on their own parade.

“We had 22 cars, three bikes and a tractor,” Cloud said. “We all pulled through. We all popped confetti.”

Cloud’s music

“Life hit me kind of hard. I’ve been trying to figure out my life and stuff,” Cloud said.

He’s a fairly new artist. In fact, he’s only done one show so far, a performance at the Blue Iguana in Prattville.

Cloud said he is currently working on new music, with a little help from his friends.

“Luckily, I teamed up with everybody, and they’re trying to help me do it the correct way, so I don’t get in harm’s way, if that makes sense,” Cloud said. “I’m trying to take it slow.”

Hip hop artist Kaptain Cloud, front, of Eclectic is shown with some of his music friends Young DK, Shaman P., 2 Tone, Kappa Carter and Trapper Jenkins.

He has three songs currently in the works - “The Honda Song,” “My Life” and “Attitude.”

“The ‘Attitude’ song is a little bit about me, because I’ve got an attitude when I feel like you’re getting over on me,” Cloud said. “I’ve had a lot of people stab me in the back. I’m positive as long as you keep it straight with me.”

He’s worked with several people - Luigi Fast, Shaman P., 2-Tone, Trapper Jenkins and more - and is a part of Noah Baker’s Alabama Massacre 12.

“I need to be positive, do what I’m meant to do and keep on being me," Cloud said.
