The driving force behind the Russell Forest Run is to help provide educational tools for the kids in the Alexander City School System. In this time of proration, teacher cuts, and program cuts – Russell Forest Run and race sponsors have teamed with the Alexander City Education Foundation to host a challenging race, raise a few dollars for the kids, and let runners have a great race in one of the most beautiful areas in the Southeast – the Russell Forest.

From start to finish, the Russell Forest Run measures 10K and carries runners over rolling hills on sand, clay, and gravel roads that were designed for bicycles and electric cars. The scenic route starts at Russell Crossroads, takes runners near Kob’s Knob, up to Heaven Hill, and back to the finish line at Russell Crossroads. Following the 7:45am 10K, there will be a 5K run at 7:55am. Runners from across the nation claim this race as one of their top destination runs.

Renew Our Rivers began in 2000 as a community river cleanup organized by Alabama Power employees from Plant Gadsden concerned about litter found along the Coosa River. Today, Renew Our Rivers is one of the nation’s largest river cleanups. With the help of local community partners, volunteers and organizations, Alabama Power has coordinated more than 117,000 volunteers and removed 15.5 million pounds of trash from Southeastern waterways. This year more than 30 cleanups are planned through November on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.
